Prankster Eneas Capalbo’s ten-year joke.
Through Feb. 14, Bill Powers’ little gallery that can–on 208 Forsyth Street–on the Lower East is showing portrait painter Eneas Capalbo’s ongoing series of George Condo send-ups. To many, his hilarious and eye-popping works, deceptively smart in their simple renderings, will be deemed better than the much-regarded but pretentious contemporary painter’s himself. The catch? A show of Condo’s work is currently on exhibit blocks away at the “serious” New Museum. Check it out-and there’s plenty of great places to eat around it.
