Noir and Again

Ross MacDonald’s classic pulp fictions get a reissue.

Ross MacDonald isn’t as well known as Chandler and Hammett in the pantheon of classic L.A. noir, but we’re not alone in thinking he’s easily their equal – or better. Best known for his Lew Archer detective series of books published in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s – two of which were made into films starring a young Paul Newman – he also wrote a number of lesser-known but equally hardboiled works that pack the same punch with his signature literary flare. Now Vintage Crime/Black Lizard is bringing out four new editions of long out-of-print MacDonald titles: Meet Me at the Morgue, The Ferguson Affair, The Three Roads and Blue City. Pack them on your next trip and you’ll never even notice if it’s raining.
