New York’s temple of the cupcake, Magnolia Bakery, shakes its sprinkles on Chicago.
We remember a time when there wasn’t a line outside Magnolia Bakery, the Greenwich Village grand-dame of the haute cupcake movement. We filled our little white boxes and then raided them on the walk home, our tongues dyed in a bright hue of guilt. Magnolia Bakery has just opened up in Chi-town, because they needed more rich food there. Any homesick New Yorker or native Chicagoan alike should make their way over to the Loop, before the line thing happens and forces you to endure those 10 minutes of self-criticism in which you ask yourself, “am I really waiting in line for a cupcake?”
