Showcasing some of the best, brightest, and most controversial films making the festival rounds today, BAMcinemaFest continues its reign as our favorite festival to hail from Brooklyn. Among the slate you’ll find Mike Birbiglia’s Sleepwalk With Me, Cory McAbee’s Crazy and Thief, Craig Zobel’s Compliance, and Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing’s lyrical exploration of Motor City, Detropia. The shorts programs are always sure-fires, with this year featuring a balloon-themed series curated by Josh and Benny Safdie. Also in the mix are some choice special events; Noah Baumbach’s directorial debut Kicking and Screaming (1995) screens followed by a Q&A, The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) is given live musical accompaniment, and Simeon Coxe of Silver Apples performs in BAMCafe.
