Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present is a group show of 166 photos, many of them rarities, by over 100 photographers who captured rock icons such as Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Sex Pistols, the Clash, Nirvana, Grace Jones, Amy Winehouse, Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, and Björk. The show’s curator, Gail Buckland, has authored 14 books on photography and history, and spent four and a half years gathering original research for the show. Be sure to check out the Annenberg’s original 36-minute accompanying film, directed by Steven Kochones, featuring hundreds of rock images and interviews with Henry Rollins, Noel Gallagher, Alice Cooper, and eight of the exhibit’s photographers — all providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how photography helped shape the world of rock today.
