The Preservation Hall Jazz Band plays New York’s McKittrick. And, no noodlers, they, they rock the house.
There is a misunderstanding that this legendary New Orleans band is somehow quaint or anachronistic. Note to music purists: This isn’t your grandfather’s preserved band of dudes calling it in.
Earlier this week, the rollicking, euphoria-inducing Preservation Hall Jazz Band played two exclusive nights at the experimental Manhattan “inn,” actually an art-performance space, known as the McKittrick Hotel…and didn’t they ramble?
In the past few years, alternative musicians and rock gods have rediscovered the band, whose ages run from the 30s well into the 80s–among them Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, My Morning Jacket, Mos Def, and on.
Get a chance to see them, by all means do.
